Woodworking for Agriculture Department
Module: AG-AE Woodworking
Woodworking in an Agricultural Farm
In an agricultural farm, various woodworking tasks arise regularly.
Wood is often used because it is inexpensive, easy to process, and quick to repair.
Many tasks involve the maintenance of buildings and facilities, but also the self-construction of stable and farm equipment.
COMMON WOODWORKING TASKS (EVERYDAY WORK)
Maintenance and Repairs: Replacement of damaged boards or beams; repair of stable and barn doors; fixing wooden walls and cladding; replacement of fence slats and wooden posts; repair of wooden platforms on trailers or loading areas.
Woodworking in the Stable (Interior Construction): Construction or repair of partitions (boxes, passageways); installation of protective boards to prevent wall damage; construction of simple animal gates or driving alleys; adjustments to lying or feeding areas.
Woodworking in the Yard and Storage Area: Construction of shelves and storage racks; repair of storage areas, shelters or platforms; construction of enclosures for materials (tools, canisters, spare parts); production of substructures or wooden supports/blocking.
WHAT IS SOMETIMES MADE OF WOOD ON THE FARM?
Many agricultural farms produce items themselves to save costs and have customized solutions.
Pasture and Fencing Equipment: Pasture fences with wooden posts; pasture gates and barriers; mobile barriers and driving alleys.
Animal Housing and Feeding Technology: Simple hay racks; feed boxes or cover frames; borders and partition walls for calves or small animals; chicken coop or nesting boxes (on smaller farms).
Transport and Storage: Repair or construction of wooden sideboards (trailers); boxes and racks (e.g., for potatoes or vegetables); pallet repair or simple wooden pallets.
Practical Aids and Work Equipment: Sawhorses and wooden supports; wooden blocks for machines, jacks, etc.; small auxiliary constructions (supports, wedges, spacers).
