Surveying for Agriculture
Module AG-SV Survyeing For Agriculture
Surveying in Agriculture focuses on technical land surveying specifically tailored to agricultural farms and fields.
In addition to classical manual methods, the curriculum places increasing emphasis on high-tech solutions.
1. Fundamentals and Principles
Importance of surveying in agriculture (area determination, boundary demarcation, and planning)
Principles of plane and geodetic surveying
Units of measurement, scales, accuracy, sources of error, and error compensation
Field record keeping and documentation
2. Traditional Surveying Methods and Instruments (mostly used)
Linear measurements (chain, measuring tape, steel band)
Angle and right-angle measurements (optical square, cross-staff)
Levelling (differential levelling, profile levelling, hand level, spirit levels)
Theodolite and Total Station
Plane Table Surveying (radiation, intersection, compass survey)
Area and volume calculations (e.g., earthwork volumes, water reservoirs)
3. Modern Technologies (high-end solutions)
GNSS/GPS (including RTK-GPS for centimetre-level accuracy)
Drones (UAV) and photogrammetry
LiDAR and 3D scanning
Digital Terrain Models (DTM)
4. Mapping and GIS
Map production, scaled drawings, and contour maps
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Soil and yield mapping
5. Practical Applications in Agriculture
Area and boundary surveying (essential for EU subsidy applications and land consolidation procedures)
Topography and drainage planning
Irrigation systems and water management
Site planning for livestock buildings, roads, silos, and other infrastructure
Precision Farming and site-specific crop management
Soil and water conservation (erosion control and sustainability)
