MODULE CI-RA
Robotics and Automation unit
Robotics and Automation unit
A small Robotics and Automation unit dramatically increases the practical value of your IT program while requiring relatively little investment, especially in a vocational environment.
It connects software skills with real-world physical systems, which is exactly what modern industries require.
Robotics introduces students to embedded systems, sensors, automation logic, and control systems, all of which are essential in manufacturing, smart devices, logistics, and Industry 4.0 environments.
Why a Robotics & Automation Unit Makes Sense
1. Bridges Software and Hardware
Students who learn programming can apply it to robots, automated systems, smart devices and industrial sensors. This makes learning more practical and engaging.
2. Industry Demand
Many sectors require technicians who understand automation: manufacturing, logistics warehouses, smart buildings, agriculture technology and automotive systems
3. Supports Multiple Skills
Students learn: programming, electronics basics, control systems, problem solving including teamwork.
Typical features:
worktables instead of only computer desks
small electronics workstations
robot kits for teams
computers for programming and simulation
Students normally work in teams of 2–3 per robot kit.
For 24 students → about 8–10 kits.
What would such a unit contain ?
Basic Equipment
Microcontroller Platforms
Sensors & Electronic Components
Electronics Workstations
Programming Computers (same from IT / Computer Lab or AI Fundamentals)
Basic Robotics Storage & Work Area
What can the students learn?
Year 1
electronics basics
microcontrollers
sensors
Year 2
robot navigation
motor control
robotics programming
Year 3
automation systems
IoT devices
smart robots
Example Beginner Projects
Students can build: obstacle avoiding robot, line-following robot, smart plant watering system, automated door system, temperature monitoring system or/and robotic vehicle
Such projects are ideal for vocational education.
Such an uprade will contain more than 50 individual positions (including drone technology) and could easily be adapted to the basic Computer / IT or the optional AI Fundamentals unit.
